eBay Japan published their cross-border e-commerce trends for the fourth quarter of 2022 (Period: October - December 2022). They have disclosed the sales trends for listings sold by Japanese eBay sellers.
As expected again, Japanese Pokemon Cards continue to perform exceptionally well, with Pokemon Card Game-related items ranking first for the ninth consecutive term. VSTAR Universe has been the best-selling product in the Trading Cards category in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Collectible Card Games has remained in sixth place in the top ten highest transaction amounts (value) since the previous quarter.

"In the first half of the fourth quarter of 2022, there was a tendency to save money due to global inflation, and growth slowed somewhat. However, from the latter half of November to December, there was significant growth due to an increase in the number of listings for year-end sales and the release of new anime goods and trading cards. In particular, December saw a significant surge in sales of anime merchandise representing Japan. The hobby, trading card, and gaming genres continued to steadily grow due to various initiatives and campaigns on eBay, recording the highest number of active sellers in 2022 in December. In addition, during the fourth quarter, rare trading cards of famous soccer players who are active overseas from Japan became popular due to the FIFA World Cup being held."

"The "Pokemon Cards" continued to perform well. Not only the new release boxes of "ONE PIECE" and "Weiss Schwarz", but also a large number of single cards exceeding several hundred thousand were traded."
The top 3 products in terms of sales volume for the collectibles category Q4 2022 were revealed by the well-known e-commerce platform. Pokemon fully took over the Top 3 in the trading card category. VSTAR Universe takes 1st place, 2nd place is the Pikachu Scarlet Violet early purchase bonus promo and 3rd place is Paradigm Trigger.
Released on December 2, 2022, VSTAR Universe was the last set of the year (high class pack) and are usually very popular, these packs contain a V card or better guaranteed in each pack including Art Rare and Special Art Rare cards. As a result, Pokemon Card Game has become the best-selling product for the tenth time in a row.
Pokemon Card Game products have maintained their undisputed top spot on the list of the best-selling products since Q3 2020, when Legendary Heartbeat was released. We anticipate the upcoming set VSTAR Universe or the recently released Scarlet ex / Violet ex set to take the number 1 spot in Q1 2023.
