eBay Japan published their cross-border e-commerce trends for the second quarter of 2023 (Period: April-June 2023). They have disclosed the sales trends for listings sold by Japanese eBay sellers.

As expected again since 2020, Japanese Pokemon Cards continue to perform exceptionally well, with Pokemon Card Game-related items ranking first for the 11th consecutive term. The highly anticipated Pokemon Card 151 has been the best-selling product in the Trading Cards category in the second quarter of 2023.

Collectible Card Games has increased from sixth place to third place in the top ten highest transaction amounts (value) since the previous quarter.

Comment from the Collectibles category representative:

"[Trading Cards]

Japanese trading cards have garnered attention worldwide, and among the trading cards sold from Japan, Japanese-language Pokémon cards account for a significant portion of the sales and remain highly popular overseas as well. Especially during the second quarter, there was a significant surge in excitement with the release of "Pokémon Card 151" in June and the collaboration between the artist YU NAGABA and the Pokémon Card Game. With the Pokémon cards, it is predicted that the third quarter will also see growth, as the Pokémon Card World Championships will be held in Japan, marking the first time for Asia in August this year. Additionally, the impact of the "Disney100" cards commemorating the 100th anniversary of Disney in the "Weiss Schwarz" series is also significant, and various other trading cards such as Yu-Gi-Oh!, ONE PIECE, Dragon Ball, and Digimon are actively being traded.

Moreover, the sales of graded cards are steadily increasing, and transactions involving high-value trading cards continue to grow. Trading cards are often thought to be heavily influenced by the release of new booster boxes, but in reality, sales of individual trading cards are more substantial, ranging from low-priced singles to high-priced singles. Affordable products see a lot of bulk purchases, while new booster boxes tend to have many repeat buyers. With the demand for high-value trading cards continuing to rise, it is predicted that further growth will be achieved by expanding sales to not only North America but also to Australia and European sites."

Among the top 10 transaction amounts, in categories that saw significant growth compared to the same period of the previous year, trading cards took the lead with a remarkable increase of +53%. This is the largest growth seen since the rapid expansion of the market in 2021.

The top 3 products in terms of sales volume for the collectibles category Q2 2023 were revealed by the well-known e-commerce platform.

Pokemon placed number 1 and 2 in the Top 3 in the trading card category. Pokemon Card 151 takes 1st place and 2nd place is the YU NAGABA x Pokemon Card Game Collaboration with the Eeveelutions.

Released on June 16, 2023 Pokemon Card 151 is a very popular set liked by young and old that includes all 151 Kanto Pokemon along with ex cards, Art Rares, Special Art Rares and more.
