New generation!

The latest trailer during Worlds 2022 revealed the next generation of Pokémon TCG! It will bring back the classic ex mechanic from the past with a new updated design! These ex cards are part of the upcoming Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet TCG Series coming next year.

Scarlet and Violet legendary Pokémon Koraidon ex, Miraidon ex, Magnezone ex, Lucario ex, and Mimikyu ex have all been teased.

Pokémon ex cards are confirmed to contain Basic, Stage 1 and Stage 2 Pokémon. These have high HP 'rivaling that of Pokémon VMAX' and when these cards are knocked out, they will also give out two prize cards. Magnezone ex has been teased to have 330HP as a Stage 2 Pokémon.

Lastly Atsushi Nagashima, the Pokémon TCG game director at Creatures Inc. mentioned the following: “Additionally, an important theme of the Scarlet & Violet Series is "comebacks," and we plan to introduce Pokémon, Trainer cards, and Energy cards that can turn the tide of the battle in this way.”

Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet TCG will launch in 2023. No release date have been revealed yet. Stay tuned for more updates later this year!

Two types of ex logos have been revealed, indicating that a (extra) evolution or mechanic to the regular ex cards, similar to the Tera Pokémon mechanic in the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet & Violet videogame, is on the way.

Terastal is the videogame's new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet battle mechanic. This mechanic can only be used once per battle and gives each Pokémon a jewel and a glow.

So, in summary, it appears that:

  • EX Card design from BW/XY Series
  • (Stage 2) ex Card mechanic from 2003-2007 EX Series
  • An important theme of the Scarlet & Violet TCG Series is "comebacks,", and fitting cards will come out for it that can 'that can turn the tide of the battle in this way.'.
  • Finally, a new potentially Tera-inspired ex evolution or mechanic will be revealed/teased.

Stay tuned for more updates!
