Pokemon TCG Standard Format Rotation Announced for 'Early 2023'

Published on 22 June 2022 at 16:54

No Summer rotation!

Pokemon has released the first piece of information regarding the standard format rotation. The important piece of information is that the following rotation of this season won't happen until early in 2023. The Pokemon TCG Format Rotation typically occurs in late August or September of each year, which is why this information is crucial.

The 2022 Pokémon TCG World Championships will therefore allow the usage of cards with the "D" regulation mark. This rotation should imply that the upcoming Sword & Shield - Lost Origin and the Pokemon GO set will be permitted at events this summer. Lost Origin will most likely not be legal for play during the 2022 Pokémon World Championships held during August 18–21, 2022.

The precise date for the rotation of the Pokémon TCG Standard format will be revealed later.

What is a rotation in the Pokemon TCG (Standard) format?

At the beginning of every Championship Series season, Pokémon Organized Play removes outdated expansions from play in the Standard format with the purpose of preserving a healthy competitive environment. This rotation challenges existing players to devise new strategies and lets new players to get engaged in Play! Pokémon events using the most recent releases.
