Pokémon TCG: First Partner Pack Promo Cards Revealed, Features 25 Starters From All Past Generations

Published on 13 January 2021 at 15:22

Last Friday, we spotted the following products at distributors named Pokémon First Partner Pack (Galar) and the Pokémon First Partner Collector’s Binder. Turns out that these products were part of the Pokémon 25th Anniversary products!

These are 8 special First Partner Packs (Oversized packs) released across 9 months (with the collector's binder included) and you can collect 25 oversized promo's which release monthly from February 26, 2021 until October 8, 2021. 8 packs starting from the Galar Region all the way up to the Kanto Region can be obtained. Each pack contains 3 oversized promo's featuring Starters of their respective Generation they were introduced in. Lastly these packs contain two regular Pokémon TCG boosters.

Also a Pokémon TCG: First Partner Collector’s Binder can be obtained to store these oversized cards in. Includes 1 oversize binder and one oversize promo card featuring Pikachu.

What is interesting, is that they re-used cards from when the Pokémon TCG was under Wizards of the Coast up until the Pokémon-e: Skyridge set. At the time they had the license to release Pokémon TCG. The WOTC-era cards are nearly identical (except the 25th Anniversary logo of course), except they removed Wizards from the copyright notice. Still has the same years for copyright though.

These products will be available at participating retailers and hobby shops around the world, as
well as Pokémon Center in the US (PokemonCenter.com) and Canada (PokemonCenter.ca).

Speculation

What is interesting, is that it is a release countdown to October 8, 2021 and it's ending at the Kanto region.

Last month, we discovered that the real 25th Anniversary Special set would release on October 8, 2021. We think this is not a coincidence. It would work perfectly as a countdown to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon TCG. It will be 25 years old on October 20, 2021.

Product description

In 2021, The Pokémon Company International will invite fans to celebrate 25 years of
Pokémon by reliving their journeys through each of the regions in the Pokémon world in a
yearlong program, beginning with the most recently discovered Galar region from the
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games and ending with the classic Kanto region
from the original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue titles.
In the same spirit, The Pokémon Company International will release the First Partner
Collector’s Binder and First Partner Packs for the globally popular Pokémon Trading Card
Game (TCG). Throughout 2021, fans will be able to collect and trade First Partner Packs,
which include oversize cards featuring the first partner Pokémon of the various regions in the
Pokémon world, and store them in the First Partner Collector’s Binder.

This idea is really awesome but the fact that they are oversized cards makes me not really want to buy it. I wanted that 25 Snivy card in normal size.
